EN World Review – Secrets of Cats by Richard Bellingham

Secrets of Cats coverGood news Fellow Gamers and Gentle Readers – it’s Friday and the weekend is finally here!

I hope you’ve all got some great plans this weekend for some tabletop gaming fun – sadly, this weekend, I’ve actually no gaming plans myself.  I’m the “on call” for my department this weekend, and in the past it’s just been too annoying to get everyone together only to have to cut things short when the GM (me) has to run off to work.  Better to just plan a quiet weekend at home with some video games, and hopefully get through the weekend as quietly as possible.

I have been playing the heck out of Kingdoms of Amalur lately – it was on sale at Steam for $9.99 a few weeks ago for the game and comes with two packages of DLC – and it has been absolutely AWESOME to play!  I feel bad about not finding the game earlier in 2012, but I think most of us PC RPG players were firmly enthralled by Bethesda’s SKYRIM at the time.  It’s a shame really – bad timing for a game release opposite that powerhouse!  The game world was designed by author R.A. Salvatore, creature modeling was done by Todd MacFarland of SPAWN fame, and programming done by Ken Rolston who worked on both Elder Scrolls Morrowind and Oblivion!  It’s a good solid PC RPG with a few quirks, but a great story line and game play options.  Even though it’s gone back up to $19.99 on Steam for the package, it’s still well worth giving it a try – it’s a blast!

But of course I do have a new tabletop RPG review this week that I wanted to tell you about, and I posted it Wednesday night on EN World News.  My review takes a look at The Secrets of Cats by Richard Bellingham, a unique urban fantasy FATECORE setting released from Evil Hat Productions.  Players opt to portray a cat in this modern setting, capable of speech and possessing magical powers which they use to protect mankind from terrible dangers!  Imagine Harry Dresden as a house cat, and you’ve got a good handle on the nature of play in The Secrets of Cats!

Evil Hat Productions’ Unusual Urban Fantasy Setting for FATE CORE – THE SECRETS OF CATS!

The Secret of Cats was quite a surprising find on RPGNow, and one of the reasons I love going to the site and just browsing around – you never know when you’re going to run across something truly inventive and fun that you’d never have guessed was out there.  I’d love to see this setting taken to another level and allow for even other animals to take up as guardians of humanity.  It explores a great trope and it was just a ton of fun to read through – hopefully, we’ll see even more products from Mr. Bellingham in the future!

So until next review… I wish you Happy Gaming!
