EN World Review – Kobold Quarterly #18 (Summer Issue)

KQ18 coverHere we are the mid-week following the “Best Four Days of Gaming”, and for those of us who attended this year, I’m sure that many are still basking in the afterglow of an amazing GenCon 2011 experience!  But I’ll admit it is hard getting back into the routine of things, it is Wednesday once again, and I have posted my regular review column over on EN World.

This week, I’m still working through the backlog of products I received over the summer months – it’s amazing how much gaming material gets published right before GenCon!  But only writing one EN World review a week does mean gaming stuff can pile up, and I want to assure publishers I’m working through the backlog as fast as I can!

While sifting through my schedule, I discovered I had been sent a copy of the Summer Issue of Kobold Quarterly Magazine, and figured I’d better get it reviewed while we are still in the summer months.  Issue #18 of KQ is subtitled “The Smell of Phlogiston”, and has several articles dealing with dragons and dragon-slaying, as well as other “hot” topics of interest to DragonAge, D&D 4E, and Pathfinder gamers.

It’s a big issue this time around, and you can read my article by article analysis in full detail by clicking the link below and heading over to EN World for the complete review:

Review of Kobold Quarterly Issue 18 (Summer 2011)

While KQ touts itself as the “Switzerland of the Edition Wars”, it is showing less and less articles for D&D 4E, while offering more and more for Pathfinder and DragonAge.  While certainly article support is important for all three games, the 4E support is becoming a bit lackluster, and I can only hope that this trend turns around in future issues.

So until next blog… I wish you Happy Gaming!
